West Ham United have announced their first summer signing with the capture of Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria.
The Spain Under-21 midfielder moves to the Boleyn Ground for an undisclosed fee, agreeing a four-year deal.
Obiang was a regular for Sampdoria in the 2014/15 season, netting three goals in 34 appearances as the club finished seventh in Serie A. The 23-year-old has been in the senior Sampdoria set-up since 2010, making 128 league appearances during that time.
He moved to Italy at 16 after starting his career with Avance and Naya, sides local to his home city of Madrid. The box-to-box midfielder has also represented Spain at Under-17 and Under-19 levels and has two caps for the Under-21 side.
He is the first signing by the club since the appointment of Slaven Bilic as the new manager.
“I’m very excited to play in the Premier League,” Obiang told whufc.com. “It’s a style of football that will help me to progress as a player and as a person, so it will be very good.”
