Top ISIS Member Arrested While Attempting To Flee To Nigeria Via Cairo (See Photos)

Top ISIS Member Arrested While Attempting To Flee To Nigeria Via Cairo (See Photos)

After more than two years on the run, Islamic State top cleric in Lebanon, Ahmed Al a$$ir was arrested by Lebanese authorities on Saturday as he attempted to fly out of the country on a forged pa$$port.
The country’s National News Agency reports that Mr. Al a$$ir was caught at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport on Saturday while trying to board a flight to Egypt using a fake Palestinian pa$$port.
It quoted Lebanon’s general security directorate as saying Mr Al a$$ir was planning on flying to Nigeria via Cairo.
A photo posted by the National News Agency after the arrest revealed that Mr. Al a$$ir had recently adopted a new look, shaving his long, unkept beard and trading his usual religious robes and headwear for a more inconspicuous jacket and sweater.
Some local news outlets suggested Mr a$$ir had also had plastic surgery to alter his appearance. Mr Al a$$ir became one of the most wanted men in Lebanon after his militia went to battle with the Lebanese army in the port city of Sidon in 2013, resulting in the deaths of 18 soldiers and dozens of Mr Al a$$ir’s gunmen.
When the war in Syria began emboldening extremist Sunnis in Lebanon and inflaming sectarian tensions here, Mr Al a$$ir swiftly rose from obscurity to become a powerful voice.

From his modest Bilal Bin Rabah mosque in the southern city of Sidon, he railed against Hizbollah and later the Lebanese state, accusing them of subjugating Lebanon’s Sunni community.
Mr Al a$$ir was ridiculed by his opponents for his hardline rhetoric and media stunts, such as a 2013 incident in which his followers forced their convoys through Christian-erected roadblocks to reach a ski resort and play in the snow.
But amid a leadership vacuum for Lebanon’s Sunni community and pa$$ions against Hizbollah and the state running high, Mr Al a$$ir’s strident tone struck a chord with many disaffected, radical Sunnis in the country.
His movement even attracted Fadl Shaker, a Lebanese-Palestinian rooftop wedding singer turned wildly popular pop star. At first, Mr Al a$$ir maintained that his movement was peaceful in nature. But slowly, the guise of a peaceful movement dripped away.
Soon, the closed-off street where his mosque was located in Sidon’s Abra neighbourhood was teeming with gunmen.
Mr Al a$$ir’s words became more bellicose as he encouraged Lebanese Sunnis to go to Syria and aid the rebels. He spoke about the need to confront Hizbollah, which he called “the party of Satan” or “the Iranian project” and accused it of dominating the Lebanese state.
In early 2013, Mr Al a$$ir released a video of himself on the front line near the Syrian town of Qusayr, moving through a trench carrying a Kalashnikov a$$ault rifle and firing a machine gun from a rooftop position.
Tensions between Mr Al a$$ir and those he accused of oppressing Sunnis came to a head in June 2013 when his followers attacked a Lebanese army checkpoint in Sidon. The attack kicked off 48 hours of fighting in Sidon as the army launched an a$$ault on Mr Al a$$ir’s mosque compound.
Hezbollah and allied militias also joined in on the attack on Mr Al a$$ir’s forces. When the fighting ended and the army captured Mr Al a$$ir’s mosque, 18 soldiers were dead along with dozens of militants.
Mr Al a$$ir and his surviving companions fled and kept a low profile. He is believed to have fled to Sidon’s Ain Al Helweh Palestinian refugee camp, a lawless enclave known to be a safe haven for extremist elements. Mr Al a$$ir’s fall was as sudden as his rise.

Benue University: BSU ASUU Calls Off Strike, Lecturers Finally Return To Cla$$

The local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Benue State University (BSU) in Makurdi, has on Monday, called off its strike and asked members to return to work.
It would be recalled, the lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike four months ago due to the inability of the former Governor, Gabriel Suswam to pay salaries.
he strike was called off after a peace meeting held by the ASUU leadership and representatives of the management and the state government. The parties reached a “realistic” agreement after hours of meeting.
The ASUU Chairman, Dr David Ikoni, said lecturers were satisfied with the commitment of Governor Samuel Ortom to the agreement.
“We told our members that we agreed to the terms of the governor and suspended the strike on the governor’s appeal. He gave us his commitment and we felt that we should give him a benefit of the doubt,” Dr Ikoni said.
However, he vowed that the lecturers would not hesitate to embark on strike again if the governor failed to keep his promise.

How Jonathan Forced Me To Take $75million Loan- Oshiomhole Laments

How Jonathan Forced Me To Take $75million Loan- Oshiomhole Laments

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has explained that his government was forced to secure a loan of $75million from the World Bank because of former president, Goodluck Jonathan’s looting.
Oshiomhole, who spoke with state house correspondents on Sunday, expressed his delight at president Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence, which he claims has transformed the country and states’ fortunes.
Premium Times recalls that the World Bank had approved a $225 million loan for Edo State Government in 2012, to be implemented in three tranches of $75 million per annum.
The report states further that the first tranche of the loan was approved by the National Assembly in the 2012-2014 Federal Government External Rolling Borrowing Plan, while the second tranche was approved by the National Assembly, only last week.
In a lengthy discussion with the journalists, Oshiomhole said: “If the PDP did not steal the money, we would not need to borrow. What we lost from the NLNG under the PDP Federal Government was about $11.6 billion. Edo State’s share of that money was more than N30 billion.
“If you realise that from every one billion dollars, we get more than N2.7 billion. So if PDP did not steal and bleed the economy dry, our legitimate revenue stolen by the past PDP government and its men is more than that.
“PDP is simply not in a position to blame the victims of their own looting which is unprecedented in the history of the country. My hope is that they would be brought to justice.
“You heard President Buhari saying last week that after they finished looting the treasury, they even borrowed to loot.
“You heard the president say that they took a loan from China and they already had taken $600 million from the loan. By now if they were still there, there would have finished the rest.
“In the South-South zone, look at the debt profile, Edo is the least borrowed. The only major loan we have taken since I assumed office was a N25 billion bond out of which we have paid over N20 billion because we are paying N530 million every month.
“As we speak, we have only about N5 billion left of that loan which will be liquidated before the end of this tenure. You heard of bailout, find out what PDP states are borrowing under the bailout plan, not for development but to pay salaries.
“But Edo State Government is up-to-date with salaries without bail out. You need to interrogate facts and not report these people as if they are responsible people because when you do that, people don’t know the difference between mischief makers and responsible people.
“PDP should simply shut up because they destroyed everything. Carry out your own investigations. You read in the papers how much our neighboring states are borrowing?
“You heard of N20billion, N30 billion under two months. To do what, to settle the invisibles. You hear them talking about N14.5 billion. We are not borrowing to pay salaries, we are able to do that in spite of the massive looting by the PDP.
“I appeal to the media because you are victims and you must interrogate these thieves when they break the highway rules and want to divert you. When you ask questions, they say you want to witch-hunt. Why won’t you witch-hunt when the witches are killing people in the village.
“For me, the only regret I have is that somehow, these rogues can seemingly eat their cake and yours and go out to complain that the cake is missing when it is in their stomach.
“I also need you to consult the World Bank to look at the statement they issued that Edo is the second state, Lagos being the first; that these two states have shown sufficient reforms, transparency, accountability in Internally Generated Revenue and reforming the public policy to ensure value for money.
“They are providing these facilities as a measure for encouraging other states to take a cue from what Lagos and Edo are doing. If this is the basis of support and you are listening to a bunch of armed robbers of what they think about decent society, they would rather borrow at 20% and they are envious that we are attracting a facility more or less at zero cost of 1% spread out over 20 years.
“If you read the report of the Senate, it says about 17 states and these are PDP states have applied for this facility but because of their public image, the World Bank is not willing to loan to them.
“I read in one of the papers that about $2.2 million donated by an NGO to support the election was stolen and they were compelled to return it but the former Minister Finance said it was witchhunting because they have refunded the money but it was misapplied.
“You hear PDP say nothing has happened in Edo State. Even the Hospital we are building, the Benin City Water Storm project, just one project is more than the entire loan we have taken. So as we speak, Edo is the least borrowed. Every state now is borrowing money for salaries.
“You are not just to parrot the views of armed robbers. When you report, you say however, it will be recalled that, that way, the reader understands who is saying the truth.”
The Edo state governor was recently involved in an exchange of words with former finance minister, Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over allegations that public funds were unaccounted for.

NASA is searching for volunteers who needs to be a piece of their “Bed Rest Study”. The employment is as simple as it sounds. The volunteer simply needs to rest and set down on the bed for 70 days in a row andNASA will pay you $18, 000.

The individual is permitted to do stuff while they are sleeping. They could utilize Skype, read books and play recreations on their smart phones.
This study expects to a$$ert the impacts of the micro scale gravity to the human body. The volunteers on this undertaking should be the individuals who have a solid living, not couch potatoes.
“Once they qualify physically and mentally, we do rigorous physical exercises to test muscle      strength and aerobic capacity. We want people who have the physical and psychological characteristics of an astronaut. They should be able to do the kind of activities that astronauts do,” Dr. Cromwell said.

According to Yahoo News, “Officials said the wreckage was spotted about 12 kilometers (7 miles) from Oksibil, and Henry Bambang Soelistyo, the chief of the National Search and Rescue Agency, said search and rescue teams were preparing to try to reach the crash site by air and foot.”
The leader of the rescue operation team, Soelistyo  said “Smoke was still billowing from the wreckage when it was spotted by a plane search.”
He also added that “bad weather and rugged terrain were hampering efforts to reach the wreckage located in a mountainous area at an altitude of 2,600 meters (about 8,500 feet).”

LOBATAN ! NNPC Retires 1000 Staff

LOBATAN ! NNPC Retires 1000 Staff

NNPC-logo-1
Over 1000 workers of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will leave service any moment from now, Daily Trust reports.
More than 200 of them are middle level officers that are caught up in the ongoing restructuring that has seen the exit of top management staff and nine heads of the corporation’s subsidiaries.
About 800 others are those that will attain the mandatory retirement age of 60 years or 35 years in service in the next one and a half years.
The new NNPC boss, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has said all staff retiring by 31st December 2016 should go now as a result of the downsizing, a source said.
The source said those to be affected are from the subsidiaries, especially  pioneer workers  of the refineries.
As at January this year, the Corporation has about 9,500 workers in its services.
The New Group Managing Director announced the disengagement of 38 management staff last week and said the on-going retirement of the Corporation workers will go down to the lower cadre.
‘It’s A to zero restructuring. I’ve done the first three layers which is going from the Group Executive Directors to Group General Managers and General Managers. You’re going to have a lot more now. The NNPC isn’t public service. It’s a corporation and we run like a company generating money for the people of Nigeria. So, the whole concept of anything goes should stop,” he had said.
Already there is agitation from the staff due to the on-going reforms alleging that it was not following due process.
They cited the example of recruitment of about 12 top management staff into corporation and deploying them in key positions without any employment notice or consultations of relevant stakeholders.
They also accused the new management of punishing some staff that insisted on due process.
Last Friday the two unions in the oil industry, the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff a$$ociation of Nigeria  (NUPENG and PENGa$$AN) warned that the reforms are exposing their members to danger.
“The on-going exercise portends a great danger in the Oil and Gas Sector, if workers are meant to bear the brunt of Government current action where the fight on corruption is now used as an act of vindictiveness against workers.”

Meanwhile, the management has scheduled a meeting with the oil unions tomorrow as part of the efforts to carry them along.
The Management further said the reforms were free from ethnicity or any agenda but mainly to enshrine professionalism in the system in a statement issued recently.
I’m Not on Ma$$ Retrenchment Binge – GMD
The Group Managing Director has said his mandate was to put in place efficient, transparent and profit-oriented processes and not to embark on a ma$$ retrenchment of the workforce.
Dr. Kachikwu stated that the mandate given to him by PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI is to turn around the entire commercial processes and procedures in order to impact on the growth trajectory and operations of the Corporation.
A statement from the NNPC yesterday said the reduction in the directorate from eight ( to four (4) at the top management cadre of the NNPC is to refocus and sharpen the business aspiration of the Corporation, adding that training and retraining of members of staff to align with the new vision is the next stage of the ongoing reforms.
The NNPC helmsman noted that all Production Sharing Contracts, Joint Venture Agreements and all other contracts between the NNPC and its various partners would be reviewed to reflect current day realities in the global oil and gas industry.
Dr. Kachikwu rea$$ured that the recent repositioning is to put in place the right set of skills for performance stressing that the new arrangement provides a veritable vista for upcoming professionals in the Corporation to have a speedy career path.
He stated that the NNPC under his watch would put in place mechanisms that would plug all revenue leakages in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors while adding that all crude oil proceeds due for the Federation Account would be remitted accordingly.

The Federal Government is set to recover all property of government still in possession of officials that served in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special a$$istant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed the development to journalists on Sunday. He said
“That is precisely the case. Even here at the Presidential Villa, there are cars and other property belonging to the government which are yet to be returned. The property belongs to the Nigerian people. We are not trying to humiliate anyone by asking them to return their cars or houses.“But change has come. That is why we have to do things differently now. Imagine how much Nigeria will save by retrieving and re-using these government properties instead of purchasing new ones for new government officials,” said Garba.

Shekau: I’m still in charge

Shekau: I’m still in charge

Shekau: I’m still in charge

The leader of the Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, yesterday denied being killed or ousted.
He spoke in an audio recording attributed to him by security experts.
In the eight-minute message in Hausa language,  Shekau denied claims by Chadian leader Idriss Deby that he had been replaced. He called the president a “hypocrite” and a “tyrant”.
“It is indeed all over the global media of infidels that I am dead or that I am ill, incapacitated and have lost influence in the affairs of the religion,” he said in the recording released on social media.
“It should be understood that this is false. This is indeed a lie. If it were true, my voice wouldn’t have been heard, now that I am speaking.”
Deby declared on August 12 that efforts to combat neighbouring Boko Haram jihadists had succeeded in “decapitating” the group and would be wrapped up “by the end of the year”.
He told reporters in the capital, N’Djamena, that Boko Haram was no longer led by the fearsome Shekau and that his successor, whom he named as Mahamat Daoud, was open to talks.
“Gratitude be to Allah and with his help, I have not disappeared. I am still alive and I am not dead. And I will not die until my time appointed by Allah is up,” Shekau said in the message.
The SITE Intelligence Group verified the authenticity of the message, and an AFP correspondent with extensive experience of reporting Boko Haram said it exactly resembled Shekau’s voice in previous recordings.
Shekau’s absence from Boko Haram videos in recent months has fuelled speculation that he might have been killed or injured.
He has not spoken publicly since he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group in an audio recording released on March 7.
The jihadist commander refers to himself in the new recording for the first time as “leader of the West Africa wing” of IS and pays homage to its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, referring to him as the “Caliph of Muslims”.
He taunted President Muhammadu Buhari, who came to power on May 29, vowing to crush Boko Haram and ordered his military chiefs last week to end the insurgency within three months.
“This ostentatious person, a liar — I mean Buhari, who raised arms to crush us in three months. You Buhari, why didn’t you say in three years?” Shekau said.
“We will certainly fight you by the grace of Allah until we establish Allah’s law everywhere on earth.”
Boko Haram has been waging a six-year uprising against Nigeria, which has claimed more than 15,000 lives.
The jihadists have repeatedly extended their northeastern insurgency into border areas of Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
In recent weeks, suicide bombers, many of them women, have launched attacks on Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad.
The four countries and Benin have pledged troops towards a regional 8,700-strong force aimed at ending the insurgency and due to deploy within days.
Speculation about Shekau’s condition — and even his true identity — has been rampant in Nigeria for years.
The wanted Islamist leader’s whereabouts are unknown, but he has in the past made himself heard whenever he has been proclaimed dead.
Some experts and Nigerian security officials insist “Shekau” is a composite character, with different militant fighters stepping into the role at different times.
The original Abubakar Shekau — the son of poor farmers, who became radicalised in a series of theological schools before taking over Boko Haram in 2010 — actually died months, or possibly several years ago, according to the security services.
But the United States and other experts have questioned the credibility of that claim.
“Here I am, alive. I will only die the day Allah takes my breath,” the insurgent leader, who has been sanctioned by the UN Security Council and declared a “global terrorist” by the United States, said in a video released last October

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, who was spotted kneeling to a popular prophet, has declared that those planning to shorten his tenure in office will be disgraced by God.
The former education minister, who was addressing members of Lord’s Chosen Renewal Charismatic Ministry inPort Harcourt on Sunday, insisted that God, as well as the prayers of the men of God, ensured that he won the last gubernatorial election in the state.

“Those who are fighting and plotting to truncate the lifespan of the mandate freely given to me by the people of Rivers State, will be disgraced by the God of the Lord’s Chosen .
“The way the God of the Lord’s Chosen did it on April 11, that is how he will do it again,” he was quoted to have said during the service.
According to The Nation, the governor told the congregation that it was at the same denomination in the state that he vowed that if the rumour that he was a member of a cult, he should not win the governorship election.
Wike is now boastful that he won the governorship election because the rumour spread by the opposition was false, and that his administration, by virtue of strategic planning, has confounded those who claimed that road construction cannot take place at the height of the rainy season.
The governor recently stated his disinterest in whether or not his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, becomes a minister of the federal republic under president Muhammadu Buhari.

Personnel of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested 31 suspected members of the Awawa cult group.
The suspects were arrested in the Agege area of the state following the unleashing of terror on innocent residents by the gang.
‎It was gathered that the hoodlums were nabbed at Talisco Hotel along Dopemu road; Bakare Ipiasha Street; Ile-Zik and Mangoro, all within Agege.
‎The Nation gathered that the RRS team followed a
tip-off from a radio programme, which reported how the cultists were making lives uneasy for residents.
Confirming the arrest, the RRS Commander, Tunji Disu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) said those arrested included four under-aged.
He said the under-aged were released after thorough interrogation on their mission at the point of arrest with the notorious group, adding that the remaining 27 would be charged to court.
Disu said:
“Upon intelligence report received through the popular Yoruba programme, which was further confirmed and authenticated by notable individuals living within the area, our men immediately bursted the areas mentioned on the programme and its environs with 15 RRS patrol vans.
“31 suspects were apprehended including 4 under aged while others are still at large.
“On arrival at the Task Force office, the under-aged gave satisfactory account of themselves and were released.”
He warned parents and guardians to be watchful of their wards’ behaviours while they are still young, reiterating the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni to free Lagos of criminals and miscreants.

Ekiti OPC Begs Fayose To Release Detained Leader

The Ekiti State chapter of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, has made a passionate appeal to Governor Ayodele Fayose to secure the release of its Chairman, Adeniyi Adedipe, from prison custody.
Adedipe is on remand for alleged involvement in the murder of former state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Omolafe Aderiye, on September 25, 2014.
Omolafe, a staunch supporter of Governor Fayose, was killed on September 25, 2014, in Ijigbo Area of the state capital.
Making the appeal yesterday, an OPC executive member in the state, Segun Egunlusi, urged Fayose to reconsider Adedipe’s case because his continued incarceration was “political”.
Describing Adedipe and Aderiye as “brothers and business partners with long years of close bond”, Egunlusi added that Adedipe had used his office to collaborate with successive administrations and security agencies to fight crime and would never be involved in any criminal act.
The OPC chief expressed sadness that Adedipe’s remand in prison custody prevented him from participating in the funeral rites of his late father saying the group had no option than to appeal to Fayose to intervene in his plight.
Egunlusi said, “We urge the governor to urgently intervene in the remand of our state leader, the Apase Oodua, Prince Adeniyi Adedipe. We want to state clearly without any fear of contradiction that he is innocent of Aderiye’s killing.
“We want the state government to temper justice with mercy because we know that he is suffering as a result of politics. He had no hand in the murder of Aderiye.
“We want the governor to be merciful to Apase because he has suffered unjustly for the offence he knew nothing about and we are ready to cooperate with his administration as we did other administrations before it”

Woman Accuses Justice Of Snatching Her Husband (See Photos)

A serving judge of Osun State Judiciary, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede has been accused by another woman named Mrs Emily Richards-Obire of snatching her husband.
Justice Oloyede had a few months ago sent a petition to Osun State House of Assembly calling on the lawmakers to investigate and impeach Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola on a number of allegations regarding mismanagement of the state’s economy that led to non-payment of salaries and pensions. She was issued a query by the Osun State Judicial Service Commission, SJC, over her petition. And now Mrs Emily has written National Judical Council (NJC) accusing Oloyede of snatching her husband.
It is however not clear if Emily’s accusation against Justice Oloyede has any connection with the Justice’s petition to the Osun State House of Assembly. But Emily is urging the NJC to use their offices to prevent her husband from having an affair.
Emily’s petition to NJC continues after the cut;
